THE ANGELCARE STORY

RITA NORWOOD

Angelcare Founder

When facing an unplanned pregnancy, many teen girls lose the support of their family and friends. Many fall victim to abuse, drug addiction and homelessness. They feel vulnerable, hopeless, and alone. For this reason, Angelcare’s founder Rita Norwood, at the direction of God, began a ministry that provides a safe haven for pregnant teens in crisis.

The Mission of Angelcare is clear: to save two lives, the life of the baby and the life of the mother. Angelcare's first line of defense is the essence of our project: the construction of a home to shelter and mentor 12 teen girls through their pregnancy journey. At Angelcare, these young ladies will find a loving home free of charge, where they can continue their education, learn life and parenting skills, receive emotional and spiritual counseling, and above all receive the love and compassion of Christ.

After several years of careful planning and gathering needed funds, Angelcare is opening the doors to the long-awaited safe haven. The newly built 9000 square foot home is located in Trafalgar, Indiana. The Angelcare house is just one facet of the organization. Off-site services are being offered to teen girls in crisis pregnancy that include prenatal care and postpartum care through the use of Doula services. Additionally, other services are being offered that include counseling, parenting classes and life skills classes.

The third leg of the Angelcare ministry is to reach the young men who have impregnated these young girls. There are a lot of good, decent young men that if given the opportunity and the support, they would be willing to step up to the plate and become responsible fathers. Angelcare would like to provide parenting and life skills classes to these young men, along with mentorship and counseling.

The need is great, and ministries like Angelcare are needed now more than ever. However, in order for Angelcare to serve our most vulnerable, monthly support is needed. It costs $100 per day for each teen mom to keep the program going.

Friends of Angelcare is a great way to support the organization. Interested businesses, churches and individuals can become a member of this group by going to the website and clicking on the Donate button. Together, we can “Save babies, one mother at a time”.
